A RAINBOW OF WOODS

OAKLEY WOODS CROQUET crafts its croquet equipment from a wide range of materials. What we love working with mostly though, is wood. This wonderful, natural material comes in a rainbow of colors. Each wood is unique, not only in color and grain patterns, but also in its physical properties.

To craft the finest croquet equipment, we have hundreds of woods to choose from. Each species has unique attributes that make it the best choice for each product that we make. For example, White Ash and Hickory make the best handles for striking implements because of their long fibrous cells. This trait allows the shock of hitting a croquet ball to be spread over a greater length of the shaft, thus minimizing the possibility of breakage.

For the curious, we have brought together information that you may find interesting (sometimes, bizarre) about the woods we use. from several sources, with an equally expansive range of properties
